Armoured Elephant soft toy – Royal Armouries

Armoured Elephant soft toy

£19.99

Product description from their website:

Introducing our brand new Armoured Elephant soft toy; exclusive to the Royal Armouries. This cuddly toy is a detailed 12" tall replica of the magnificent Armoured Elephant displayed in the Royal Armouries Museum.

The elephant armour (bargustavan-i-pil) dates back to around 1600 and was brought from India by Lady Clive, wife of Edward, 2nd Lord Clive (Governor of Madras), to England in 1801. It is said to be the largest animal armor found on display in any museum. Now-endangered, Asian elephants were first used on the battlefield in India, and famously in the 326 BC Battle of the Hydaspes between Alexander the Great and India’s King Porus in modern-day Pakistan.

There were many military purposes for which elephants could be used. In battle, war elephants were usually deployed in the centre of the line, where they could be useful to prevent a charge or to conduct one of their own. Their sheer size and their terrifying appearance made them valued heavy cavalry. Off the battlefield, they could carry heavy materiel and provided a useful means of transport before mechanized vehicles rendered them mostly obsolete

This curator approved soft toy may be an ever so slightly smaller version of the real thing… but it makes a cuddly companion for all ages.

Dimensions: 23 x 13 x 28 cm

Mazateca Mujeres coffee (Mexico) – Tate

Emma buzzard tate coffee image

£10.50

Product description from their website:

A delicious, washed process coffee from a group of female farmers in the Sierra Mazateca mountain range. Recommended for filter.

  • Flavour notes: Caramel, blackberry and honey
  • Producers: Mazateca Mujeres
  • Location: Sierra Mazateca, Oaxaca, Mexico
  • Process: Washed
  • Variety: Typica, Mundo Novo, Bourbon
  • Size: 250 g

Located north of Oaxaca city, the Sierra Mazateca mountain range is a remote and challenging coffee growing region, marked by its steep and dramatic topography. It became an unlikely centre of alternative tourism in the 1960’s but today the area is becoming known for its fruit forward coffees sourced from isolated small farms.

Keep your coffee sealed in the bag and store in a cool dry place away from sunlight. Use within 3 months.

Tate Collective's Open Call invited 16-25 year olds to create artworks for our coffee labels. Each entry was inspired by Coffee by Tate's values of quality, community and gender equality. This label titled Senses was designed by Emma Olivia Buzzard.

About our producers
Our import partners Raw Material work to help smallholders increase their yield in order to make coffee farming a viable income for those that live in this mountainous region. They are able to facilitate higher and more stable prices for their coffee whilst also introducing them to new markets.
