R1290M Tri-ang Railways Remembered: RS9 'Intercity Express' Train Set – Hornby

R1290M Tri-ang Railways Remembered: RS9 'Intercity Express' Train Set

£179.99

Product description from their website:

Our ‘Tri-ang Hornby Remembered’ set recreates the nostalgia of the original, using the same artwork on the box lid, and includes the BR green-liveried locomotive with its small yellow warning panels, which were typical of the time, plus Pullman Cars ‘Jane’ and ‘Ruth’, and Pullman brake ‘No.7’.

Back in the 1960s, the track in Tri-ang Hornby train sets was the new Super 4 system introduced in 1962, but today’s recreation has current Hornby trackwork, comprising of a 2nd radius starter oval of track, power clip and uncoupling ramp.

Historically Tri-ang train sets didn’t include a controller and therefore this collectable re-creation of the historic train set also doesn’t contain a controller. If you wish to run this you will also need to purchase our R7229 Analogue Controller and P9000 wall plug transformer or our R8012 HM2000 Analogue Controller.

Vintage Leather & Brass Measuring Tape – Sir John Soane's Museum

Vintage Leather & Brass Measuring Tape

£85.00

Product description from their website:

A handsome vintage cloth measuring tape encased in a leather case with a brass winder. Portable tape measures of this kind have been an essential tool for architects and draughtsman for centuries and are now collectable items in their own right while still fulfilling their original practical function.

The linen tape measure is printed in inch increments (Imperial being the only prevailing system in use at the time of manufacture) and extends to 100 feet. Although somewhat cracked with age and use, the numerals can still be seen and it still functions as a tape measure.

The tape is pulled from the case using a brass ring and can be wound back into place with a brass winder that flips out for use and folds back preserve the flush surface of the case.

The leather case is stamped with the makers mark for Chesterman, a Sheffield company renowned for its innovation in the creation of measuring devices. The company was founded by inventor and industrialist James Chesterman (1792 - 1867), who in 1833 patented the spring-return linen tape measure. He went on to develop many innovative measuring devices including metallic woven and steel tape, while also serving as the first honorary secretary of Sheffield Football Club.

All our vintage items are sourced for Sir John Soane's Museum by expert buyer Michelle Mason, proprietor of vintage emporium Mason Painter on London's celebrated Columbia Road and author of books on London's best shops and how to buy and arrange vintage wares.

Mason scours a select range of antique markets in search of choice pieces which summon the Soanean spirit of eclecticism and appreciation of the beautiful (and the occasionally quirky).

  • Linen tape measure enclosed in a leather case.
  • Tape measure: 100ft or 3048cm.
  • Dimensions of case: 15.5cm diameter, 3.5cm high.

Please note that all vintage pieces are one of a kind and are sold as seen, with wear and patina in keeping with their age, and are non-refundable. Please do contact us if you require further information about a particular piece.

Their numbers used to be controlled by David’s cat Christ. But since Christ ascended, their numbers have exploded. And now, the chickens have demanded their own tea towel. This is that tea towel.

Ryan Gander 'Blah-Blah' Sculpture Toy (Large) – Royal Academy of Arts

Ryan Gander 'Blah-Blah' Sculpture Toy (Large)

£195.00

Product description from their website:

Ryan Gander is a British conceptual artist born in 1976. He finds his inspiration in ordinary situations from his everyday life. He uses production techniques borrowed from craft, art history, fashion, film or music industry to turn them upside down. Ryan manages to infuse poetry into pairs of shoes, glass architectures or animatronic animals.

Ryan created the Blah Blah kit, thirty-three sounds crafted from components of made-words invented by the artist’s middle child, aged nine. The font is based on her best handwriting. Each sound means nothing and can be used to invent words and play with sounds whilst making sculptures. This building kit contains all thirty-three elements.

Each kit comes in a cotton pouch. Please note that the shapes, colours and patterns of your set will slightly vary from those in the pictures.

Black Country Type II by Tom Hicks – Ikon Gallery, Birmingham

Black Country Type II by Tom Hicks

£40.00

Product description from their website:

In 2023, The Modernist published Black Country Type, the first retrospective book by visual artist Tom Hicks. It sold out quickly and received international attention, including being listed in Dezeen magazine’s top ten architecture and design books of 2023.

Black Country Type II is the new instalment in Hicks’ ongoing exploration of the post-industrial landscape of the Black Country.

This volume features his most recent practice - new images that have never been seen before, capturing a changing landscape before it disappears.

Hicks typically takes photographs during freeform walks and cycle rides through the Black Country region, applying a fine art sensibility to his representation of the urban environment.

In this series of images he applies his unique aesthetic, focusing on words, typography, handmade lettering and signs. He also photographs ‘types’ of architectural features, objects and the post-industrial landscape of the area.

Known for his trademark compositional style, he relies on direct sunlight to illuminate his subject matter. His work also demonstrates a keen eye for the humour and the surreal in everyday life.

This new volume will appeal to designers, architects, artists, students, the quietly mischievous, and anyone with an interest in photography of the contemporary urban environment.

Photographs by Tom Hicks
Foreword by Robert Plant
Design by Alfie Hicks
