London Immigrant City Hardback – London Museum

£20.00
Product description from their website:
Is there a street in London which does not contain a story from the Empire? Immigrants made London; and they keep remaking it in a thousand different ways. Nazneen Khan-Østrem has drawn a wonderful new map of a city that everyone thought they already knew.
She travels around the city, meeting the very people who have created a truly unique metropolis, and shows how London's incredible development is directly attributable to the many different groups of immigrants who arrived after the Second World War, in part due to the Nationality Act of 1948. Her book reveals the historical, cultural and political changes within those communities which have fundamentally transformed the city, and which have rarely been considered alongside each other.
Nazneen Khan-Østrem has a cosmopolitan background herself, being a British, Muslim, Asian woman, born in Nairobi and raised in the UK and Norway, which has helped her in unravelling the city's rich immigrant history and its constant ongoing evolution.
Drawing on London's rich literature and its musical heritage, she has created an intricate portrait of a strikingly multi-faceted metropolis. Based on extensive research, particularly into aspects not generally covered in the wide array of existing books on the city, London manages to capture the city's enticing complexity and its ruthless vitality.
This celebration of London's diverse immigrant communities is timely in the light of the societal fault lines exposed by the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit. It is a sensitive and insightful book that has a great deal to say to Londoners as well as to Britain as a whole.

Made of five accords, & is about a sense of place and the artist himself. It evokes the lush garden surrounding Kentridge’s home, his studio environment and the materials he uses.
The opening of this fragrance is fresh, citrusy and spicy. The notes of bergamot, black pepper and cassis transport us to the vibrant greenery on the way to Kentridge's studio in the heart of South Africa. Hidden beneath watery floral notes is the scent of charcoal and pencils, brushes and ink. Undulating from fresh to deep notes, this fragrance is rooted in the powdery scent of paper, in combination with the woody notes of musk.

Superman was a Foundling tea towel by Lemn Sissay – Foundling Museum

£10.00
Product description from their website:
Tea towel made in collaboration with author, broadcaster and poet, Lemn Sissay OBE.
Award-winning poet, playwright and 2014 Foundling Fellow, Lemn Sissay OBE, created Superman was a Foundling, a poem printed on the walls of the Museum’s Study Studio.
Superman was a Foundling is a striking installation, exploring the powerful role of orphaned, fostered and adopted children in our culture. Sissay, who experienced growing up in care, describes the project as addressing the disparity between our admiration for fictional characters and a widespread disregard for their real-life counterparts:
“Superman was a Foundling upraises the fictional stars of popular and classic culture who are fostered, adopted or orphaned. They range from Romulus and Remus of Rome’s foundation myth, to Lisbeth Salander of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Their adventures have enriched our lives, but we do not recognise the connection between the fictional characters and the fostered, adopted and orphaned children in our midst.”
The tea towel bears a detail of the installation at the Foundling Museum.
Designed and decorated in the UK.
