Wood Pigeon Woven Badge – Leeds Museums and Galleries

Wood Pigeon Woven Badge

£14.00

Product description from their website:

Katfish Designs is a local maker based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Kath handmakes all of the tweedy birds herself, in her small chapel studio surrounded by the Yorkshire Pennines.

“With his plume of petrol and purple Charlie Pigeon is a handsome chap. Wooing his beloved with romantic picnics beneath the bird feeder. As he waddles into view, he may seem a little plump to you. But he assures us, he’s just heavy feathered.”

Charlie Wood Pigeon is made from lilac herringbone Harris tweed with grey and black Yorkshire wool tweed. He has a beady little black resin button eye. His colourful plume has been needle felted from natural merino fibres. The layers of fabric have been appliquéd together and backed with black felt. He fastens with a 2.5cm silver tone bar brooch back.

He Measures approximately 6 x 10cm

Charlie comes displayed on a manilla luggage label.

Because all of the tweedy birds are hand made, they all have a distinct personality. There may be small differences between yours and the one in the picture

A New Map of London 1800 – Sir John Soane's Museum

A New Map of London 1800

£45.00

Product description from their website:

ndividually handmade in the family-run workshop of craftsman Phillip Burrough, this map is laid on high-quality cloth and beautifully presented in an antique marbled slip case.

This rare edition of Robert Laurie & James Whittle's copper engraved map of London was published in 1800. Published just a few years prior to the laying out of Regent's Park it shows that although London had rapidly expanded over the last hundred years or so open fields still lapped the edge of Hyde Park. The Isle of Dogs was still largely marsh land and Islington and Hackney still villages. Folding maps came into being in the mid-18th century when turnpike roads became extensive and good enough to make long-distance travel easier.

Specifications:

  • Size: 70 x 90 cm
  • Material: 100% Natural Cotton Cloth

Grotesque Goblin Corbel – Sir John Soane's Museum

Grotesque Goblin Corbel

£15.00

Product description from their website:

Inspired by the collection of Grotesques filling the Monk's Parlour in the crypt area of the Sir John Soane Museum. It was with mixed feelings that Soane watched a rising public fashion for the Gothic style. He designed this playfully sombre space, the Monk's Parlour to satirise this style.

Taken from the medieval carvings found upon the misericords and supporters within the choir stalls of Exeter Cathedral. This carving is of a goblin, similar in appearance to that of a gargoyle but carved from wood and found indoors. This reproduction carving stands proud when hung upon a wall and makes a most attractive and interesting focal point.

Oakapple Designs Ltd are the only company in the UK with permission to take moulds from original medieval carvings from within the Cathedrals of Britain and to then reproduce them for sale. These reproductions are cast from a resin composite and then stained to give the product all the fine detail, feel and authenticity of the original carving.

Fitted with a ring for hanging. Size is approx 90 mm x 70 mm
