Huichol Indian Art Skull – British Museum

Huichol Indian Art Skull

£200.00

Product description from their website:

An exquisite beaded skull ornament, handmade by Peyote People in Mexico.

This skull is a fine example of Huichol Indian art. A one-of-a-kind ornament for the home, each skull is unique and reflects hours of skilled craftsmanship. The highly decorative skull features traditional patterns and a moveable jaw. Glass beads are adhered to the resin skull with a cera de campeche blend of natural Mayan beeswax and resin. To maintain this piece, please keep out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.

Due to the handmade nature of these incredible ornaments, each skull's colours and designs will differ from the illustration.

Deep in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Western Mexico live the Huichol Indians. Very little is known about the exact origins of the Huichol, but today they retain a set of customs and beliefs that make them one of the best preserved Pre-Columbian tribes in the Western Hemisphere. Bright and colourful bead art is one of their cultural traditions. These exquisite skulls are handmade by the Huichol Indian tribes and display the charms of this art form.

Peyote People is a fair trade co-operative based in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the home of the Huichol Indians. It is recognised for its commitment to promoting Huichol Indian artwork and preserving their customs and traditions.

An incredible gift for the home.
