The Beauty of Everyday Things – Ikon Gallery, Birmingham

£9.99
Product description from their website:
Our lives are filled with objects. Everyday things used in everyday settings, they are our constant companions. As such, writes Soetsu Yanagi, they should be made with care and built to last, treated with respect and even affection. They should be natural and simple, sturdy and safe - an aesthetic fulfilment of our practical needs. They should, in short, be things of beauty.
Long revered as the authority on craftsmanship and Japanese aesthetics, Yanagi devoted his life and writing to defend the value of craft. In an age of feeble and ugly machine-made things, this now-classic book is a call for each of us to deepen our relationship with the objects that surround us. Inspired by the work of the simple artisans Yanagi encountered on his lifelong travels through Japan and Korea, it is a heartfelt defence of modest, honest, handcrafted objects, from traditional teacups to jars to paper. Objects that exemplify the beauty of everyday things.

Open Press XS – Open Press Project

£154.00
Product description from their website:
This is the smallest little printing press we could come up with!
With its ball bearings and stainless steel roller it can be used for any intaglio and relief printing technique, like drypoint, etching, engraving or lino- and woodcuts of up to 13mm thickness. We challenge you to use it to make the tiniest of prints!
We usually manufacture larger (but still mini) 3D-printed presses and have used all our knowledge of international logistics, batch production in 3D printing and press-making we’ve acquired over the past 5 years to come up with this little gem of a press. It's actually more difficult to manufacture and the hardware is trickier to source, but we did it anyway. This is actually the second edition of this truly tiny press. We first made them in 2021 and got so much great feedback and people asking us to make them again that we decided to make this gold edition - who are we to deprive the people of the tiny little printing presses they want!?
The included table clamp lets you attach the little press to a work surface and have both your hands free to handle inked up plate, paper and press on a tiny scale. We hope you have a lot of dexterity - you’ll need it!
With a press bed of 40x73mm (ca. 1.6 x 2.9 inches) the work area is truly tiny, but the possibilities are endless!
The press comes:
- as a fully assembled tiny 3D printed printing press with stainless steel roller and ball bearings,
- with small wing bolts to adjust pressure,
- a woven wool blanket for high quality intaglio prints,
- a clamp to attach press to a table,
- a quickstart guide,
- a drypoint needle with 3D printed grip
Cooling Towers: A celebration of sculptural beauty, industrial history and architectural legacy – The Twentieth Century Society

£45
Product description from their website:
A stirring celebration of cooling towers, the monumental brutalist structures dotted around the Britain landscape that are relics of twentieth-century industrial history – and are about to disappear for good.
Bringing together some of the country’s most distinguished architectural photographers and writers, Cooling Towers is an elegiac exploration of these imposing buildings, forming a definitive visual record of Britain’s coal-fired power stations at the moment that they disappear into history, as most of them have been slated for demolition very soon. The book’s focus is on the unique and sculptural presence of cooling towers within the landscape, always an unforgettable sight.
Essays include:
• Hugh Pearman on Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire, still standing but not for long.
• Otto Saumaurez Smith on the recently demolished, particularly beautiful set of cooling towers that formed part of Ironbridge B Power Station.
• Luca Csepely-Knorr and Richard Brook on the landscape and setting of post-war power stations.
• Poetry by Patrick McGuinness on the falling towers at Didcot.
With a celebratory foreword by Sir Antony Gormley, Turner Prize-winning British artist who has long expressed admiration for these immense constructions, and photography from renowned architectural photographers Eric de Maré, Bill Brandt, Michael Kenna, Luke O'Donovan, and James O. Davis of Historic England, this book is a visually exciting and historically significant record of Britain's twentieth-century industrial legacy.
