The elephant armour (bargustavan-i-pil) dates back to around 1600 and was brought from India by Lady Clive, wife of Edward, 2nd Lord Clive (Governor of Madras), to England in 1801. It is said to be the largest animal armor found on display in any museum. Now-endangered, Asian elephants were first used on the battlefield in India, and famously in the 326 BC Battle of the Hydaspes between Alexander the Great and India’s King Porus in modern-day Pakistan.

There were many military purposes for which elephants could be used. In battle, war elephants were usually deployed in the centre of the line, where they could be useful to prevent a charge or to conduct one of their own. Their sheer size and their terrifying appearance made them valued heavy cavalry. Off the battlefield, they could carry heavy materiel and provided a useful means of transport before mechanized vehicles rendered them mostly obsolete

Solid Drape – dish produced from surplus metal and designed by the Copenhagen brand, Better Weather, founded in 2020 by Anne Werner and Kasper Lynge with a background in fashion, graphics and contemporary art. With manual labor – and a powerful workshop press – they have created a series of containers from leftover sheet metal, without cutting or welding. The process is the same for each design, but the starting point is different pieces of metal and the finished products will therefore be unique.

Better Weather was founded in 2020 and, in addition to vases and dishes in metal, Werner and Lynge also design furniture and other interiors. They work exclusively with commercial scalable materials – by-products from factories, industry or urban waste.

Deep in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Western Mexico live the Huichol Indians. Bright and colourful bead art is one of their cultural traditions. These exquisite skulls are handmade by the Huichol Indian tribes and display the charms of this art form.
