The true pioneer of civilization is not the newspaper, not religion, not the railroad but Whiskey! – Mark Twain
From illicit distillation to worldwide export, whisky has a powerful and multi-faceted history. Writers including Robert Burns, James Joyce and Haruki Murakami have all mused on it, and there are strong opinions on every aspect, even down to how the word itself should be spelled.
A staple of the classic cocktail, whisky is at the heart of diverse cultures around the globe, both in the established whisky traditions of Scotland and Ireland and in newer practices, such as the first Swedish malt whisky distillery, Mackmyra, opened in 1999. This book will take you to whisky landmarks all over the world, including the record-breaking Karuizawa distillery in Japan and Kavalan, the distillery that put Taiwanese whisky on the map.
Get to grips with the four key ingredients – grain, wood, yeast and time – then learn how to taste whisky like a pro, from glassware to cocktails, and become a part of the international whisky family.

Large Indian Elephant Textile Ornament, Assorted Designs – British Museum

£45.00
Product description from their website:
A large stuffed fabric elephant ornament in assorted designs.
This ornament forms part of a range accompanying the British Museum exhibition Ancient India: living traditions.
Crafted by artisans in India, the stuffed elephant ornament is made from cotton waste cloths in an array of colourful patterns embellished with thread embroidery and vibrant ribbons. The adorable elephant decoration features black beady eyes and ears made of yarn.
Please note, this ornament is made in assorted designs and colours which may differ from the illustrations, and each order is selected at random. Specific colours and designs cannot be guaranteed.
In Indian culture, elephants are revered as protectors of the family and the household. These animals are associated with the deity Ganesha, also called Ganesh, an elephant-headed god known for removing obstacles and bringing about new beginnings. Elephants are also seen as symbols of longevity and good fortune; the Indian elephant is often depicted in art and literature.
As one of the first major exhibitions focusing on the early devotional art of India from a multi-faith and global perspective, Ancient India: living traditions reaches back over two millennia to reveal the shared beginnings of three of the world’s major religions – Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. Exploring early expressions of belief, the exhibition not only traces how sacred imagery emerged in ancient India and travelled across Asia, but also how this revered art transitioned and evolved into the rich visual traditions still practiced today.
A unique statement piece for the home.
