Details
To gallivant, is, according to its dictionary definition 'to wander about, seeking pleasure or diversion', and this is just what artist turned filmmaker Andrew Kötting set out to do on this zig-zagging 6,000 mile trip around Britain's coastline.

Part home movie, part road movie, Kötting's riveting and eccentric film stars his 85-year-old grandmother Gladys - opinionated, bursting with anecdotes and contradictory reminiscences – and his eight-year-old daughter Eden. As the journey begins, the two are practically strangers, but by the end, 'Little Eden' and 'Big Granny' have struck up a warm bond, a relationship lent added poignancy by the fact that Eden has Joubert Syndrome, a condition that affects her speech and movement so she communicates through sign language.

Newly remastered in 2K by the BFI, Gallivant is presented on Blu-ray alongside a selection of short films chosen by Andrew Kötting.

'When it comes to immersive cinema, few filmmakers can hold a candle to British maverick Andrew Kötting.’ Mark Kermode

Guerrilla Girls: The Art of Behaving Badly – Southbank Centre

Guerrilla Girls: The Art of Behaving Badly

£22.99

Product description from their website:

Guerrilla Girls: The Art of Behaving Badly is the first book to catalog the entire career of the Guerrilla Girls from 1985 to present. The Guerrilla girls are a collective of political feminist artists who expose discrimination and corruption in art, film, politics, and pop culture all around the world. This book explores all their provocative street campaigns, unforgettable media appearances, and large-scale exhibitions. Each copy comes with a punch-out gorilla mask that invites readers to step up and join the movement themselves.

In 1985, a group of masked feminist avengers―known as the Guerrilla Girls―papered downtown Manhattan with posters calling out the Museum of Modern Art for its lack of representation of female artists. They quickly became a global phenomenon, and the fearless activists have produced hundreds of posters, stickers, and billboards ever since. More than a monograph, this book is a call to arms.

Retro 51 N3200 Spitfire Pen – Imperial War Museum

Retro 51 N3200 Spitfire Pen

£86.00

Product description from their website:

Our Spitfire N3200 pen incorporates design elements inspired by the legendary aircraft. It features acid-etched rivets and panels, painted in a matching camouflage pattern. The plane’s tail numbers are printed alongside the British Roundel, and the top disc displays Britain’s tri-colour fin flash. Each pen is packaged in commemorative packaging with foil-stamped graphics representing the plane.

The original Supermarine Spitfire Mark 1a, built in 1939, was assigned to No. 19 Squadron at RAF Duxford in April 1940. During the Dunkirk evacuation, Squadron Leader Geoffrey Stephenson piloted Spitfire N3200 on its first and only mission during 'Operation Dynamo,' successfully shooting down a Stuka before being shot down himself. He crash-landed on a beach near Calais and was captured, remaining a prisoner until the end of the war.

The Spitfire was uncovered in 1986 after being buried in sand for forty-five years. Acquired by Dr Thomas Kaplan and Simon Marsh in 2000, it was fully restored and donated to the Imperial War Museum in 2015. The Duke of Cambridge received it during a visit to Duxford, witnessing the Mark 1a fighter fly again after 75 years.

Reto Pulfer: Knochenwesen (Bone Beings) – Spike Island Artspace

Reto Pulfer: Knochenwesen (Bone Beings)

£200.00

Product description from their website:

  • Year: 2015
  • Edition of 8 unique objects
  • Materials: Raku ceramics, shoelaces
  • Dimensions: Variable
  • Provenance details: Certificate of authenticity

A limited edition of eight Raku ceramics – each unique and produced specifically for Reto Pulfer's solo exhibition at Spike Island, Gewässerzeiten.

The edition was created during a live performance by the artist using the traditional sixteenth-century Japanese technique called Raku – a process which reflects his interest in working with chance operations, as it consists of removing the pottery from the kiln while it is still glowing hot and then subjecting it to a fast cooling process in sawdust, which results in unpredictable crack patterns on the surface and intense colours.

As part of the live performance, the ceramics produced on the night were added to a large-scale net (reticulum in Latin), crafted from hemp rope, hand-dyed cotton ribbons and shoelaces, which has been hoisted like a giant sail in the main gallery at Spike Island.

Birdie CO2 meter – Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark

Birdie CO2 meter

€208,95

Product description from their website:

When the blue canary hangs its head, you should open the window and air it out. It may sound like a joke, but it's serious: The Danish-designed, rechargeable Fresh Air Monitor from Danish Birdie (formerly called Canairi) keeps an eye on the indoor climate: It measures the CO-2 level in the room, and if it is above the internationally recommended limit, the bird turns down and hangs its head. When you have aired out long enough, the canary returns to an upright position and your indoor air again complies with current standards.

The innovative CO2 meter was invented by Copenhagen childhood friends, economics graduates Andreas Kofoed Sørensen and designer Hans Høite Augustenborg, who together founded Birdie (formerly known as Canairi). The starting point for helping us get some fresh air is research showing that 80 million homes in the EU alone suffer from poor indoor air quality. The result can be a risk of asthma, headaches, allergies and sleep disorders.

Internationally, health authorities recommend that we go outside for 10 minutes, 2-3 times a day - simply because many of us spend 90% of our lives indoors. And when to go outside, Birdie's CO-2 meter, shaped like a blue canary, can help.

The canary became the natural choice for the exterior design of the CO2 meter because miners first started bringing canaries to work in the mines back in 1911. If the canaries became unwell, it was time to come up from the mine and get some fresh air.

  • Dimensions: Canary: 10 x 5 x 2.1 cm, Box: 18 x 8 x 11 cm
  • Material: Recycled plastic
  • Color: Blue
  • Design: Birdie
  • Model: Birdie Fresh Air Monitor

Birdie is easy to hang on the wall with the included screw and instruction sheet.
