About the Image
In 1982, Red Saunders documented the Rock and Roll Weekender at Pontins Brean Sands, photographing participants who travelled from across the UK to celebrate 1950s rock and roll culture. Working with a Hasselblad camera, Saunders made a series of portraits and candid scenes that capture both the nostalgia of the event and the commitment of those involved.

The photographs reflect a subculture defined by style, music, and shared identity, recorded at a moment when revival scenes played an important role in British youth and popular culture.

This photograph is available as a hand-numbered, limited edition pigment print, produced on Ilford Galerie fine art paper and issued exclusively through the British Culture Archive.
